Namco Bandai Now Making Games in 3D

By Fallafelsaurus on Tuesday, December 8th 2009

JCAs if the Avatar game wasn’t bad enough, it now appears as if Namco Bandai will be producing games that have 3D options as well.

Discovered in a recent press release, the company recently licensed the tools to be able to develop 3D games from a company named RealD. The tools give developers the ability to “take audiences inside distant worlds, immersing them deeper into stories than ever before”.

While I am all for technological advancements, it seems like this is the last thing developers should be worrying about, especially Namco Bandai. To me, developers should be focusing on refining gameplay mechanics and the quality of their storytelling, rather than worrying about implementing a feature as gimmicky as 3D.

While 3D effects have drastically improved over the last few years, they are still distracting as hell to me, since I have to wear glasses on top of my glasses and that they get in the way of enjoying the movie the way I like to enjoy them. I’ve never understood the whole 3D craze and if this is indeed the future of gaming, and the effects are anything like the ones in movies, then you can count me out of it.
