Game-Ending Glitch Found in Assassin’s Creed II

At least it comes with a bunch of extra crap!Assassin’s Creed II has been getting lots of mixed reviews, but everyone can agree that it’s one of the biggest titles to hit this year. Ubisoft got a lot of criticism for the first game, and they had plenty of time to build a sequel that improves upon its predecessor to create a significantly better game. Surely, there won’t be any glitches in the game that make you delete your save file and start over, right?

Oh, wait.

It looks like that might be too much to ask. One gamer wrote in to CVG, explaining what happened to him.

I, like many others, seem to be getting a glitch after finishing sequence 11. After the save I quit out of the game. After I returned the next day it loads the hideout level and nothing happens. You just walk about with nobody there.

It’s unclear which systems this issue affects, and what percentage of gamers are experiencing it. I did a quick search on GameFAQS and the twitters, turning up no instances of anybody complaining of this issue. There is a thread about it on Ubisoft’s forums, though, where many players seem to have congregated to share their pain. It’s claimed at the beginning of the thread that Ubisoft is aware of the issue and is working on a fix to be included in their “upcoming patch” for the game, which I can’t seem to find any other details about.

Regardless of whether it’s a widespread issue or not, you should be able to avoid it by simply playing a bit past the end of Chapter 11. Save manually when you have a chance to after that point, and you should be good.

If I get my save corrupted, I will loose my sh*t! Manual save FTW!

AC2 is not getting mixed review scores. The only review on metacritic that is below 80 is the Destructoid review.

I saved and quit after sequence 11 and my save loaded up fine when I went back the next day to finish the game. I’m calling bullshit on this guy personally.

Sounds like it might be a rare glitch, which can happen I guess. Still a pretty major one, but I haven’t really heard of this being widespread.

More common are random freezes, which I have experienced on the 360 now 2 times in nearly 30 hours of playing.

Also, what ParaParaKing said… response to the game has been overwhelmingly positive rather than mixed, though most admit there are some lingering problems that could be sorted out in time for AC3. I loved it meself and don’t expect it to show up on ‘Dear Game, It’s Over’ anytime soon.
