EA Announces New Medal Of Honor, Just Don’t Mention That Other Game

By now you’ve probably heard that EA are rebooting their ailing World War II franchise with a new game set in present-day Afghanistan: Medal of Honor (there is no subtitle) will be out on PC, PS3 and 360 next year. But does anyone really care?
Imagine you’re John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts. Your biggest competitor, Activision, has just achieved “the biggest launch in history” with a game focusing on combat in the 21st century. What do you do?
Clearly, the answer is to start development on your own game. You’ll need an explosive single-player experience, and a compelling multiplayer mode to keep gamers coming back for more. You could probably call it something like Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Hey, wait a second…
Medal of Honor is entirely surplus to requirements, and I just can’t see how EA can contemplate putting out two contemporary warfare games in the same year. The multiplayer component of Medal of Honor is even being developed by DICE, the creators of Battlefield. Are EA trying to squeeze two games out of one development cycle?
With the announcement of Medal of Honor, I think I can officially declare myself done with modern combat games for a while. It was the endless stream of crap MoH sequels that ultimately killed the World War II setting, so it’s only fitting that the new Medal of Honor should do the same for modern warfare too.

I’d love to listen in to the meeting when they chose a modern setting for the game. I bet it was some exec, with all the devs looking at each other, worried.
Nobody was brave enough to say it’s a terrible idea and thus; development started.
*facepalm*
