Fill Your SD Cards with Nintendo’s Outdated Taster Service

Wii ShopThe Wii Shop Channel has today listed five Demos for download. Wii-owners can fill their SD cards to breaking point with trials of the following: BIT.TRIP.BEAT, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord, NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits, World of Goo and Pokemon Rumble.

The demos are available between the 16th November and the 31st January. Whilst the time-limited nature of the downloads is perhaps attributable to concern over limited storage space on SD cards, it’s also possible that the problem lies with Nintendo exercising bandwidth and storage charges to individual developers as per the Playstation Network’s business model.

Microsoft’s Live still sets the pace for offering accessible downloadable content with trials available for a huge number of games spanning the console’s lifespan and playable demos is a developer requirement for all arcade and community titles.

It seems surprising that Nintendo has yet to capitalise on the largely proven system of offering trial versions of titles to attract potential buyers. Though perhaps, given their rocketing financial situation of the last few years, they know a little more about their target market than the casual commentator.

The demos are actually listed under ‘demos’ on the WiiWare genre page, and there’s a link to them on the ‘Shopping Guide’ homepage. No text search necessary.
