Nintendo to Release New DSi, Me to Boycott Nintendo
So remember when I told you not to buy a new DS or you’ll lose all your games? It’s time to put the ol’ willpower to the test.
In what can only be described as “What the fuck are they thinking?”, Nintendo have decided that they’re going to release a new DSi later this year in Japan. One with a bigger screen on it!
The new thing will have a 4-inch screen on it, versus the miniscule 3.25-inch thing that’s out now.
There’s no word on a release anywhere outside Japan at this point, but why wouldn’t they? Then again, why would they put out a new DSi just a year later? This is Nintendo’s loudest-yet “SUCK IT” to the loyalists who have relentlessly and unquestioningly continued to purchase products from the video game godfathers, but in my eyes it’s the most blatant.
The DSi was released in North America on April 5th. This year. 2009. Here we are, half a year later, hearing news about a new and improved model coming down the pipeline. While this may be par for the course for computer manufacturers, it most certainly is not for game consoles. New colors is one thing; that’s a given. A physically-improved version of a system less than a year after its release is ludicrous!
I certainly won’t be buying this damn thing. Or maybe I will, since Nintendo’s marketing always seems to get the best of me. Depends on which colors it releases in. Come on, NES-Edition!
Anyway, if you’re looking for an excuse to give Nintendo more money, go for it! Just expect your new toy to be obsolete before your next load of laundry.

I feel sorry for people that were stupid enough to buy a DSi already. I mean, it adds two cameras that no one will really use, and DSiware (which no one knew at the time that it would suck and not have more than two good games, so I’ll give early adopters that at least)…
DS2 is coming next year most likely, I’ll wait for the real sequel.
I’m already boycotting Nintendo for using Ant and Dec in those godawful ads.
@Playing Mantis: Actually this news makes it unluckly that the DS2 is coming next year. My guess is 2011.
