Modern Warfare 2 Scraps Dedicated Servers For PC Gamers
You weren’t planning on using that low ping local server to host your Modern Warefare 2 games were you? Don’t you know one big centralised system, like Xbox Live, is much more popular amongst real gamers, and more reliable? Infinity Ward will be launching IWNet along with MW2 this year, ending the ability to play their games on anything other than their servers.
Whilst we don’t have much information at the moment (and are likely not to get any more, after all, why would Activision give you information if it would make you not give them all your money?), what we do know gives a fairly clear message to PC gamers, and it’s not polite.
One thing I like about PC gamers is their elitism, superiority issues and well connected communitys. Combined, these factors make them a right bitch if you piss them off, which is exactly what IW have done. Once we find out the true extent of the PC gamer shafting going on, we’ll be sure to keep you informed. In the mean time you can sign this petition, or leave some feedback on Amazon sharing your thoughts.

This is nothing new. They probably just saved a few thousand dollars on finalizing the development on a dedicated server solution for the PC. Why waste the money when the “lead SKU” for MW2 (IW4) is a peer-to-peer only network architecture. Sad times for us (former) PC gamers (elitist pricks we all are).
I’m not a big PC gamer, and even I’m mad at them.
Grow up wardrox. You clearly don’t understand the full extent of what Activision did. No dedicated servers takes away the whole uniqueness of the PC experience. No more remote playing on a server that anyone can rig up and that often result in communities being revolved around them. No more clan servers. No more mods. The mod scene was just crushed by this.
Without a doubt one of the chief factors in this decision was deterring piracy. It’s too bad a percentage of fucks have to ruin it for those of us who actually pay for the game. I was on the fence about getting it for PC, but now I’m definitely not getting it. Fuck those corporate rectums. I hope this shows in the sales figures.
@SP420: Did you read what I wrote? I agree with you :-/
@SP420
You’ll have to forgive Wardrox. He failed at sarcasm there.
… badly. :P
This news is damaging to my more precise controlling, graphically superior ego.
…Ok, well if that last paragraph is sarcasm, then all right.
As I neither play anything on my computer aside from the occasional rts with some friends nor was I planning to get Modern Warfare 2 on any platform, this news doesn’t really affect me. I can see how many are really disappointed, but unless they back up this virtual uproar with dollars then it isn’t going to make any sort of difference, imo.
Dice’s response is really interesting, though. If it pans out like I’m sure they hope it will and people actually follow through with their online “promises” to cancel preorders/not buy MW2 and go for Bad Company 2 instead, it might actually make some sort of a difference. But that’s all just wishful thinking, right?
as sarcastic the last paragraph was, the part about elitism and superiority issues is all too true.
And blaming it on the pirates, AGAIN? Sorry, but its not about piracy. Because the pirates will play MW2 on their own, hacked, and therefore somehow “dedicated” servers. Just as they always did.
Its about control. Centralized servers means absolute numbers in regards of players, means clear messages for companies for ingame advertisements.
And it is about making DLC profitable. Forgot that bit.
Our clan will be boycotting this game and we are all cod4 and 5 player. We accept there is no game without a dedicated server, disapointed we blame IF con,They can put MW2 where the sun does not shine,we dont want it.
