NGCast Episode 45: Gifts and Gandon

Brutal Legend, if you were wondering

After recording of this week’s episode finished, I counted 12 separate insect bites on my arms. This doesn’t actually factor into this episode, but thought you might be interested. Other things we talk about are:

  • Half Left and Brandon got gifts
  • Brutal Legend, Uncharted 2 and ODST
  • We don’t Google Phil’s article
  • Halo, more like Whore-lo
  • Silly Left 4 Dead 2 boycotters

All that and some other things too. Listen will you please!

Another great show guys! But why would you advise against people googling certain vagina-stretching procedures?..it could be very informative. ;)

My hair is shit today :(

@Pyroph: Now you know how I feel when I get up.

So those are literally just holes? Doesn’t that damage the DVDs?

Pyroph Says:

Well I mean it’s still got the backing from the game slip, and there’s still the circle to hold the disc.

Got to comment a bit on DDO here, since I’m playing it, just the bits in the podcast…

Blocking isn’t required, really, ever. I play a tank and the only thing blocking does is boost my AC slightly and add a bit of damage reduction. (This is actually helpful in the larger instances, but anything pre level 4 I really wouldn’t think you’d need it.)

You can strafe without having mouse look enabled. I think it’s Q&E by default. That being said with mouse look enabled whenever you open up a panel or talk to someone it auto disables and renables.

The reason for level Ranks is that you get Action Points in between levels, which you can spend on enhancements. Which are either passive skills or brief buffs you can use on yourself. When you hit 5 ranks in a level you actually level up as you would in the DnD system, getting more skill points , feats, etc.

Leveling Sigils (I think they’re called) can be gotten from quest rewards as well as the store. I played with 3 other people and we all got a level 4 sigil at level 3. Not only that but we all got enough points to buy one from the store if we needed.

A lot of the content is locked from free to play players, but there’s plenty enough to level up for a fair chunk of the game.

Locked races and classes are Warforged, Drow, Favoured Soul and Monk. These were locked in the original game and were unlocked with Favour Points – And they still are, but you can now also buy them outright if you want.

Finally, the store doesn’t give paying customers a real ‘advantage’ over nonplaying ones because you’re paying for content. Every single mission in DDO isn’t like something in WoW where you’ll run out and do them in an open world, it’s more akin to City of Heroes or Guild Wars, everything is instanced and balanced for a few players. Not only that but the vast majority of them are hand crafted and include DM voice overs for the scenes.

I can see it not being everyone’s cup of tea, but so far I’ve really enjoyed it. It does have a lot of problems, but I wouldn’t say it’s that bad at all. It isn’t comparable to WoW simply because it is a totally different style of game. I suppose the biggest flaw is that you really do need some knowledge of the DnD systems before you jump in to it.

Hey guys, as I was the one to post a mean comment last week I thought I´d chime in and say this podcast was back to the established level of quality! And it´s pretty cool that you´d take a comment like that and take the time to personally address it. Kudos.

PS: love the “I´ll give you a 10″ idea, maybe make it an NG feature!

There are vehicles in the hub world, if you find quite a few of the audio logs an armory opens with a Mongoose in.
Just sayin’.

Also, contextless comments are FTW. Good episode, apart from the little pissy rant on Brutal Legend at the start, but that’s just my tired, currently ill self. Keep em up!

Bit late listening, but good show all. :)

If Imagine Babies is the one I played at PAX 2008 then you can’t kill the baby. If you neglect it enough a social worker tells you what a horrible person you are and how they’re going to take the baby away to a good home. :)
