Love Alpha Client Available.
One of the many things that I dislike about indie games is how a lot of them are impossible to follow. When you do find one you’re interested you have to follow either a blog that almost never updates, or a page on ModDB ‘” in the event that it’s a mod ‘” that is never updated. Then you forget about it, and it never comes out, so you remove it from your bookmarks or you google reader or what have you. Then, eventually the game comes out and you had completely forgotten about it because you weren’t following the blog, and everyone in the world tells you about it before you play it, making you hate yourself for not keeping that blog cluttering your feed reader.
A similar thing happened to me with a game called Love. I first heard about it on Co-op and was immediately intrigued. I tried to find its website or anything about the game, but I couldn’t find anything about it due to the rather trite name, and I was too infatuated with how interesting it seemed to check Co-op’s show notes (D’oh!).
Then I realize that there is coverage on it in a few places, and find that there are updates, like a PUBLIC ALPHA?! What is actually meant by an alpha client is that the game loads, and you get to look at the main menu with a scene of the game scrolling by in the background. It looks just like what the videos have had in them, so I’d assume that it’s rendered in the game’s engine (not an FMV or prerecorded video). That’s great and all, but I wish it was an opportunity to actually play the game, not a pretty screen saver.
So head on over to the post and help Steenburg out with engine optimization or something by downloading the Alpha client and looking at the pretty scenery that goes by.
