Arkham Asylum Collector’s Edition Plummets In Value

YOUR DLC IS THE CAUSE OF ALL THIS, YOU BASTARD!Just a little interesting something I accidently stumbled upon on Amazon.com’s Video Game Trade-In page.  While Amazon is selling Batman: Arkham Asylum regular and collector’s editions at $47.99 and $89.99 respectively, the collector’s edition actually has a lower trade in value on the Xbox 360.

And not just a few dollars difference either. Shockingly, Amazon is currently offering up a hefty $33.75 for the regular edition of the game, but only $22.50 for the collector’s edition. Quite a blow to those who bought the pricier version of the game, hoping it would offer them some worthwhile collectibles in the same vein as Bioshock (the limited edition version of the game with the Big Daddy figurine averages between $100-130 on eBay these days). Weirdly enough though, the trade-in value of the collector’s edition for Playstation 3 is still riding high at $35.

So why the ridiculous price differences? I wouldn’t be surprised if this was because of all the bad press from the fiasco related to the shitty plastic batarang that was supposed to be the main selling point. The PS3 version of the game may have sold better because of the Joker pre-order DLC, which might explain the difference in price. Or hey, I could be totally wrong and maybe Amazon just royally screwed up somewhere when they were writing up the trade-in values. Either way, it kind of blows for anyone who bought the Xbox 360 collectors edition and hoped to re-sell it at some point.

I guess Amazon’s assessing the value of the game with a shame tax. I bought the CE of this game and after finishing the story, getting most of the riddles and playing through a majority of the challenge maps, the constant reminder of the over-sized box is a source of sadness in my life. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great game.

I did avoid buy the CE of this. I mean, come on. Like that big batarang was ever going to be made of metal. The shit thing was that Eidos never disclosed that it was made of plastic.

And thank goodness it wasn’t. It would only take one nut case to ruin it for all of the rest of us. I just imagine it on the news now.. “Lunatic goes on rampage with Arkham Asylum batarang and Modern Warfare 2 night vision goggles. Congress/Parliament demands oversight. Film at 11.”

Those collector editions bleed money so quick. 2 months after GTA4 was out the collector version was like half price, the same thing with the halo and fallout3 collectors version too(except the collectors version of fallout 3 bounced back because people started hunting around for them).

Also I made fun of my friend for getting the CE. So much laughter and joy was brought into my life because of that game.
