Fo’ Shizzle? Halo 3: ODST Buyers May Buy Other Games That Don’t Suck
Industry Gamers informs us about a shocking development that is sure to rock the games industry to its very core. OTX, a “global consumer research and consulting firm” published a report titled “GamePlan Insights” where they detail a correlation of purchasing intent between Halo 3: ODST buyers and other high profile 2009-10 releases. According to OTX, gamers buy Halo 3: ODST will most likely buy other games that aren’t total crap.
I know, I know common sense and mountains of historical, empirical data have told us that dudes that buy ‘œTeh Haloz’ don’t buy other games. Despite positive reviews, enormous marketing blitzes and word-of-mouth recommendations no self-respecting Halo fan has ever betrayed Microsoft and Bungie by purchasing a competing title.
This proven fact led to the utter defeat of several unknown franchises in Ought-4; GTA: San Andreas and Half-Life 2 (November 9, 2004, a date permanently tattooed on both Peter Moore’s bicep and the Halo fanverse). Twenty-Oh-Seven saw the failure of no-name titles such as, Bioshock, The Orange Box and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I wonder where these developers are now? More disturbingly though is the appearance of God of War III, a PS3 exclusive title, on the list. According to this blasphemous chart 18% of those surveyed intend to cross the platform divide to purchase a game where you rip dudes’ heads clean-off.
Obviously, the folks at OTX are gravely mistaken. The above titles have no chance of success this year. I only hope for the sake of these poor developers and publishers, some of the non-Halo crowd has pity on them and donates $60 to at least one other title this year.
