I happen to find the Sonic of old to still be more appealing than the Sonic we have now via his cutscenes ingame. I can't seem to get enough of Sonic OVA.Its hard to explain, but there's something there that you just can't get nowadays, no matter who it is working on Sonic.

I disagree Mantis. Maybe that says something about the Sonic franchise as a whole. Could the recent, atrocious Sonic titles be just and good/bad as the originals? Maybe Sonic is just like the Voltrons and Thundercats of our youth...great when we were young and stupid, but not satisfying enough for a mature, experienced gamer.

I don’t think I’ve ever beaten a Sonic game either. just like point and clicks and shmups, i find it entirely possible that 2D jump and runs are the next genre to slowly fade away.
sure, we get the odd N+ or splosion man, even an excellent bionic commando rearmed - but did those games sell that well? There is hope that the blue blur might JUST be cool enough to revive JnR for a few more years. For us oldtimers, well there is always emulators - or for collectors like me the real deal :)

i think there is a very sad message hidden in the article: that gaming culture has moved on.<br

I would argue that due to the shortcomings of critical darlings LBP and SMG that a good Sonic game could really garner a lot of sales and buzz due to its potential. Sonic as a an action platformer is a hell of a lot more fun and visceral than a dickless plumber, or a fucking sack. lol

Good points Brett.
