New Square Enix Countdown Clock is Mysterious, and Insulting
So word on the street is that Square Enix is about to make another big announcement. How do we know this? Well, yet another of these ridiculous countdown clocks has appeared on their website. Is anyone else tired of these things?
I think this is only the 5th or 6th clock that I’ve heard about this year, but even still, I’m tired of them. They don’t serve any purpose other than remind us how the company that’s holding the countdown likes to tease us with little tidbits of information. Oh, we’re going to make an announcement on this day! That sort of PR stunt really irks me. To be honest, the last few times that the countdowns have been seen, I’ve either been underwhelmed, or it was for an event that everyone knew was already taking place (Kojima’s clock ended during the E3 press conference). If you want someone to be excited about something, don’t tell us about FF XIII 4 years before it’s released, delay it five times, and announce another game in the series before the one we’ve been waiting on is released!
The interesting, and perhaps incredible thing about this clock is the art that’s displayed with it. The Clock did have a VII on it, but as of me waking up this morning to write this piece up the clock doesn’t have the VII any more, it’s just a V (this is very irritating, you’d think countdowns would stay the same. There’s also Vagrant Story art hidden in it apparently, if you’re hopeful about that series).
So does anyone actually care about what this countdown will reveal? How this gigantic publisher/developer holds its announcements above your unworthy head, getting you hyped up for their announcements, when you could very likely be let down by it? Maybe you just have your head in the sand though, and as soon as you heard it had a VII the only thing that you wanted them to announce (as with every countdown that they do), is a Final Fantasy VII remake for the PS3, and will be eternally let down.

Meh. I like Square. They make Kingdom Heats. Yes, that makes me a fanboy, but Kingdom Hearts was my firstest evar RPG, and I luvz it.
Seriously though, KH is a pretty good series, and I personally hope that they finally announce KH3. Come on Square, its been four FUCKING years.
So Hawkeyed One…you’re looking forward to Kingdom Hearts I guess? ;)
Seriously though these countdowns are so indulgent and arrogant.
@Hawkeyed One: Heh, I still haven’t finished the second one. I agree though, it’s been too long since the last one, screw 357/2 days or whatever the midway one’s title was.
There were actually 3, supposedly coming out this year. 358/2 Days which comes out on the PSP, Birth by Sleep which comes out on the DS, and Coded which comes out on the cell phone.
