GayGamer Gets Runner-Up in EA’s “Lust” Competition. Turns Them Down
It turns out EA, or more accurately the PR team behind the recent Dante’s Inferno “molest a booth babe” competition, just aren’t GayGamer‘s type. When the news broke of EA’s terrible PR-stunt-gone-bigoted, GayGamer, as you might expect, were none too pleased. To test EA’s boundaries and to have a bit of fun at their expense, they decided to enter themselves with the lovely pic seen here (that was taken at PAX last year).
And guess what? After all the bad PR, luckily for the PR team the GayGamer pic was “randomly” chosen to be a runner up! How lucky is that! Well, it turns out it’s not that lucky, as PixelPoet, the GayGamer writer in question, has turned down the prize.
Instead of filling in the legal mumbo-jumbo, our lucky winner instead retuned a rather lengthy and spot-on letter explaining why he felt the competition was in poor taste. He also suggested alternate ways EA should deal with his prize (a free t-shirt and a $240 EA Store gift certificate)
Instead of giving that $240 away, I would prefer the money to be used in the following ways:
1) A new sexual-harassment training video/seminar
2) Another PR team to try to spin this whole debacle of a contest into a positive light
3) A direct phone line to EA’s legal depart to use before you try anymore PR stunts
4) Six copies of your game when it releases, since I know you’ve lost at least that many fans with this stunt
5) Or the next time you go to Hooters (for the wings, of course), leave a $240 tip for your waitress in a karmic way of balancing out what has been done to the booth babes of SDCC due to this contest
Make sure to have a read of the full letter, as it is not just amusing and right, it’s also exactly not what EA’s PR disaster recovery team wanted.

I’m “digg”ing this as well as submitting a reddit. This whole booth-babe-rape-fest of EA’s is insane.
This is fucking marvellous.
Go on pixelpoet you fucking legend.
pixelpoets response was the first time in my whole gaming life that a gay gamer person did NOT annoy* the shit out of me. Well played, and a big bag of kudos. Especially for giving EA the finger.
*i have no problems with gays; what anyone does in his bedroom is none of my concern. But the way a large part of the gay community tries to shove their “pride” down our collective throats (no pun intended) on XBL is just annoying. When I am playing Call of Duty, all i am interested in how skilled a player is and not where he prefers to put his willie. That`s what match.com is for.
Well handled I must say. I still contend that the easiest way to have won this contest would have just gotten a photo of you making out with your girlfriend… that is if anyone at ComicCon had a girlfriend in the first place.
Very nicely done. Hopefully the EA PR team have learned a lesson from this. The sooner we can move away from this kind of misogynistic nonsense the better. Would’ve been funny if pixelpoet’d won first prize though…
@NoZart: No offense but comments like yours really wind me up. I take your point, but at the same time imagine what it would be like to be gay (or female for that matter) and have to deal with the amount of ‘hetero bullshit’ being shoved down your throat.
@cuthberto:
Woah Woah Woah. Slow down there cowboy. I’m all for gay people and all that, and women’s rights and shit, but you’re out of line on that one. “Hetero bullshit”? In case you haven’t noticed, being straight is considered the norm, number one, and number two, RTSs are pretty much a boy’s club. I’d wager that at least sixty percent of RTS gamers are guys. So, logically, the majority of people you’re going to run into playing an RTS are going to be straight guys.honestly, wheat do you expect them to talk about. Furthermore, you never see “all straight” clans now do you? The reason being because there would be such an outrage from gays and women, and because straight people are usually very stable and confident with their own personality that they can associate with gays and women and not have to question their sexual or moral preferences. Saying that gays have to put up with ‘hetero bullshit’ is like saying mice* have to deal with ‘cat bullshit’.
*The mice reference is not meant to be offensive in any way. In fact, what you said its more offensive, because you basically admitted in the gay/straight relationship, gay is somehow weaker or less influential. I have no problem with gay people in any way, but I do have a problem with people using the homosexual moniker as a way of getting around social norms.
