World Of Warcraft: The Game: The Movie: The Game.

lol John is a dwarf, and Gavin is a woman. I totally got dibs on the Lawladin.
When will Hollywood learn that short of Super Mario Bros, every video game movie ever made was utterly terrible. Apparently not soon enough, seeing as how Blizzard has announced that Warcraft is being turned into a feature film. Blizzard has signed on Sam Raimi, of Spider Man and Evil Dead fame, to direct the movie. Hasn’t anyone seen Spider Man 3? It was terrible. Lord only knows what Mr. Raimi would do to this franchise. Mr. Raimi was quoted as saying:

At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story. I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen.

Well, I think it’s safe to say you’re the only one who’s excited.

So Blizzard apparently decided to make a movie based on the Warcraft games. The most popular of which, is obviously World of Warcraft. So how exactly does that work? Will it follow the story of a young man blossoming into puberty on his epic quest to clear Ulduar and finally get laid? Or will it watch the downfall of a fat, 40 year old man pretending to be a woman on the interwebs as he hides in “The Fortress of Cheeseitude” while eating Cheetos in his mom’s basement. Or better yet; gold farmers.

Thomas Tull, CEO of Legendary Pictures, the company producing this film, has said that;

Partnering with Sam Raimi exemplifies Legendary’s mandate of marrying the highest quality intellectual property to world-class filmmakers. Sam’s passion for ‘Warcraft’ is undeniable and we know that he will create an incredible film worthy of Blizzard’s phenomenal franchise.

While I have reason to doubt Mr. Raimi’s “Passion” for Warcraft, Legendary does tend to make rather good films, such as The Dark Knight and Watchmen.

In Blizzard’s press release, they go on to say something to the effect of “zomg WoW makes us tonz of moneyz” and inform us that Wrath Of The Lich King was the fastest selling PC game of all time, and more details will be revealed as development progresses. I suppose it was only a matter of time before a movie was made, but I do approach this with great trepidation. I’m also wondering how long until World Of Warcraft: The Game: The Movie: The Game is released. And if so, will it follow the path of games based on movies being utter crap? Only time will tell.

Wex Says:

I don’t think they’re basing it on “WORLD OF” Warcraft, but the Warcraft Universe. Basing a story on a game that has relatively irrelevant plot would be foolish.

I just hope that it’s at least entertaining. Not DragonBall:Evolution Bad, but entertaining.

NoZart Says:

well at least the movie will be only 2 hours of grinding.

Naughton Says:

1. I’m assuming the Super Mario Bros bit was a joke.

2. I wouldn’t put all of the blame for Spider-Man 3 on Raimi. He didn’t want anything to do with Venom, he liked the just Sandman version of the script. Pretty much every director has directed a pile of shit at one point in time.

I miss Warcraft 2… Oh the good old days

P Marsh Says:

@Naughton: Completely agree. Sam Raimi did the first two Spider-man films and they were quite good. Anyone who had seem them and no.3 should have been able to tell he was phoning it in on Spider-Man 3. And, as stated above, taking into assumption that this movie is not based on WoW’s butchered story line it has a chance to be a good video game movie.

Also who would give up the chance of seeing Bruce Cambell as a dwarf or goblin or orc in the film which is almost a dead certainty considering Raimi is directing and the target audience is usually familiar with Army of Darkness.
