Mass Effect Comic Forthcoming
Mass Effect publisher, BioWare, has partnered with Dark Horse Comics to create Mass Effect: Redemption. Set to launch on 6 Janurary, 2010 the four-part comic series aims to bridge the gap between the end of Mass Effect’s story and the beginning of Mass Effect 2′s.
Lead Writer at BioWare, Mac Walter has also said that ‘œReading the series won’t just add to your experience of the universe, it will change the way you look at Mass Effect 2′. This statement does not sit well with me. As someone who is looking forward to the release of Mass Effect 2 next year, I would like to experience everything that is canon in the series up to that point, and whilst there is a large crossover between gamers and comic fans I am not one of them.
Since Mass Effect’s launch in 2007 there have been discussions of episodic content or DLC expansions for the game. Although there has been one additional DLC content pack released so far, there are still rumours of an upcoming announcement. I would personally much prefer Mass Effect: Redemption to have been made available as additional gameplay, and I imagine many other fans of the game would too.

I hope it’s better than the prototype comic.
The first novel wasn’t bad, so I might look into this once I finish Mass Effect.
I don’t believe that “you will view mass effect completely different” – pitch. The comic would have to be of enormous writing quality to achieve that. At best, the comic can/will augment the ME universe, not turn it around.
If you want to enjoy all things canon to ME, why the reluctance to do it via different media? Every big IP of substance uses multiple media to transport its content.
Star wars, Star trek, battletech, shadowrun, Aliens, terminator, whatever. You get Games, Comics, Novels, for each and everyone of them. Why should ME be an exception? And yes i know that those IPs mentioned started of as movies, but i place ME with them because the quality is on the same level, its just a different medium….
All the major game properties have had comics announced to hype up their sequels. Assassins Creed 2 and God of War 3 both spring to mind with six part comics being released six months before the game is released, it’s a great way to hype the games before they’re released, it’s just something we’ve got to expect these days.
