Microsoft Attempt To Fix The Party System, and Other Dashboard Updates
Later this summer Microsoft will be rolling out a new Xbox 360 update. Sadly, it won’t be as mind blowing as the NXE update which, as we all know, was the biggest event in the history of the internet.
As with most of the big news Microsoft like to spout about, roughly 90% is utter garbage that nobody cares about. Or at least, nobody sane and with a coherent understanding of money would care about. However, there was some silver lining. For me most notably is the acceptance the Party System is broken. Are Microsoft fixing the problem? Ha ha, no. But apparently now if when you get dropped from your party, the system will try to automatically re-connect you, which is nice.
They have also addressed the issue of crapturation (saturation of crap) on the Xbox Live Arcade and Community Games Indie Games and will now allow user ratings. As good as this sounds, I can tell you for a fact the top rated games will be rubbish. I have very little faith in the Xbox hive mind being able to distinguish quality.
To dip into the other 90% of this update for mildly satirical reasons; Microsoft announced that soon you will be able to dress your avatar in “branded apparel from your favorite fashion labels and Xbox 360 games”. This means you will be able to pay to wear adverts, and people will. Which logically following on also means that, and I can guarantee you this, gaming sites will be reporting on designer shoes for your virtual avatars.
Microsoft also helpfully added that the update won’t include any of the “important” junk they announced at E3. Namely Twitter, Facebook or Last.fm integration. They also gave no comment on the rumour that this update will allow us to see the bottom of our avatar’s shoe.
