Activision Still Pissed About Boston Tea Party

DJHEROEDIT

Eagerly waiting for Activision’s latest money grabbing scheme? Can’t contain yourself over the “Wow! I’m a DJ, look at me spin these dex!!” extravaganza? Just want some friends? Thought so. Well, if you were thinking about buying the upcoming “game” DJ Hero, I’ve got some bad news for you, it seems the goliath publisher hates you. Lots.

The game, which is due for release this November, looks to be more expensive in the UK than it will be in America. The UK version will ship with the game, plus the crappy turntable for around £107.99, yet the US version will have a retail of $120 that’s around £70 in GBP, quite a chunk.

While many retailers will sell it for £100, that’s still £30 extra, just for being in a much better country. (Bait). On principle, this is crap, how is it fair that we have to spend a fair bit extra, when our American cousins get all the deals? However, on this occasion, I’d like to thank Activision for basically doing us all a favour.

Essentially, they’ve made it harder to buy which means that there will be fewer copies on this planet, which for all of us, is a good thing. If you’ve not heard, the game essentially is Guitar Hero but you have a set of decks with three buttons on it. Great, huh? If you’re reading this and you were going to buy the game, but now because of the price are not, you’ve been saved.

Don’t think this is the end however as if this sells well then we will get endless more ‘Hero’ franchises, one after another. “Dance Hero”, “Maraca Hero” or “Sitting in Your Room Alone Hero” sound good to you? Lets stand firm and say; “we will not buy your gimmicky products” and then let’s all go play some real games.

I agree with your points about how overcharging people in the UK is shitty, but the way you present the post makes you sound like a douche.

The only people really affected by the high price of DJ Hero are the ones are/were planning to buy DJ Hero, and in the first paragraph of your post, you go out of your way to rag on them.

Then in the second paragraph, you imply that the turntable is shitty, when most journalists at E3 have reported that the turntable is pretty solid. But what do they know, all they did was ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME!

The last sentence seals the douche-deal though:

“Lets stand firm and say; “we will not buy your gimmicky products” and then let’s all go play some real games.”

What about DJ Hero makes it not a “real” game? The fact that you aren’t into it? It’s just as “real” as any other game coming out this year or any. I’m sure that lots of people are interested in DJ Hero, and just because I’m not one of them doesn’t mean that I’m going to sit on my high horse and make fun of them, or suggest that their purchase will bring forth a shitty-game apocalypse.

Hey Naughton. Yeah, you’re right I do sound like a douche, but as the site suggests, this my negative point of view. I wouldn’t have posted this if I was happy with the game!

I personally think that the game will be crappy, they’re just basic rhythm games, nothing to do with ‘making music’ as they’d suggest. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are only (just) fun because it’s a social game, but sitting scratching fake decks doesn’t do it for me.

As for the Activision price hike, they’re obviously getting their own back for the 1765 Stamp Act.

Thanks for your comment.

Re: the price hike, I think Sam’s got some great points. Brits get shafted regularly on pricing when the language is the same, roughly lol, and shipping to that cloudy little island shouldn’t be that bad.

As for Sam’s douchy-ness? I thought he smelled faintly of vinegar. ;) At least he’s got a fresh Man-gina now. lol

I enjoyed the article devs and marketing need to be held more accountable imo.
