Sony Doesn’t Believe The PSP Go is Overpriced – Obviously

After the historically under-whelming launch of the PSP Go at E3, Sony have responded to criticism that the new fangled PSP is overpriced. In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Andrew House the CEO of Sony Europe was quoted as saying; “If it’s cheaper would we sell more? The answer would probably be yes.” Yet, he maintains that a lower priced PSP Go is not the model Sony is looking at. He states that they “mak[e] sure it works overall from a profitability standpoint”. Yet it’s hard to see what they have added apart from off the shelf parts such as harddrives and bluetooth radios.
Never mind that the PSP Go does basically less than the current PSP (i.e. no UMD drive) so all those movies and games you didn’t buy, won’t work. You want our advice? Grab a PSP 3000, get a 16Gb SD and call it a day. House also states that Sony is looking at a 10 year production cycle on their platforms, PS3 and PSP alike. Sony is good a designing consumer electronics, but it seems that they haven’t got it quite right with this one.

But but the slidey screen!!
I’d like to get a PSP, but I refuse to get a PSP Go!
i’m getting one the umd drive was always the thing that put me off the psp. digital is the future and the slide out screen makes it well more portable.
if sony somehow integrate this with a music store and a video store they could be on to a real winner. the playstaion media store.
i wouldn’t buy anything from it but still i think it could make them relevant again.
the main sticking point with most people appear to be the sliding keys this isn’t as unnatural as you think it will be at first. my mobile phone has this slide out feature and after the initial difficulty getting used to it it becomes very intuitive and nice. shame its looks so chinsy tough. not what i expected from sony meh.
@pieman: Lots of people saying they should added a touch screen etc. Something to make it worth the money.
And you may as well have the UMD for the cheap 2nd hand games. No doubt everything will be RRP from download.
yes that is a problem with downloadable games but then there is always steam which has been quite good with the pricing situation. hopefully sony will be aggressive with the pricing rather than being there usual greedy selfs.
