If You Want A New Chrono Trigger, Buy More Chrono Trigger!
Oh Square Enix… We all know you only want to make money, but at least try to not be so blunt about it.
According to Square Enix Senior Vice President Shinji Hashimoto, the reason why there has been no Chrono Trigger sequel is poor sales numbers. In an interview by RPGSite he got asked if he could foresee Square handing off other franchises to external developers, like what happened with Front Mission. When asked what franchise they had in mind, the obvious answer was of course Chrono Trigger. The response?
“Why does everyone ask about Chrono Trigger?” he laughed. We told him it’s a very loved series. “That’s not what the sales tell me!” he responded.’¨’¨”If people want a sequel, they should buy more!”
Well, good to know. So go ahead, give Square Enix all your money, so you can later give them some more. But, to be fair, after playing the horrible extra dungeon in Chrono Trigger DS maybe I don’t want a sequel.

They might want to consult Valve on that theory first.
But there already was a sequel.
Hmm right, but I don’t think most fans consider Chrono Cross a “real” sequel.
No, Chrono Cross was an intresting thought experiment in video games that had the unfortunte misfortune to be called a sequel to CT.
If CC was devorsed from CT’s storyline (Much like how FF was) then it would of been bees and candy, now it’s just bees in slirpies and no chocobos.
ConanThe3rd: Chrono Cross is the CT sequel. There is a scene with the main characters in it. Of course everybody wants to believe it wasn’t a sequel, but it clearly is.
I’m sorry, but a cameo a sequel makes not.
Also, the game was a wordy-gobledegooky-mess of words that makes End of Eva look like an episode of Playdays.
