Surprise! Another (5) Guitar Hero Game(s) Announced!
This one in the Flavor of Van Halen (oh, that probably doesn’t taste good at all…)! With the recent release of Guitar Hero Metallica, how long did you expect for Activision to announce a new instalment, 6 months? 3 Months? Wait until E3 (which is a month away)? Well, it’s already been announced.
One of the customs of these single act branded Guitar Hero games is to have songs from other artists on them to fill the bill. A few of the announced bands for the Van Halen mix include Weezer, Blink-182, and The Offspring. I’m sure you Van Halen fans will love that!
You’d think that when putting one band on the cover of a game, you’d put a lot of bands from that era, of a similar genre in the game as well. The Metallica game didn’t appear to have too many oddballs, but the few that I do see when glancing at the Guitar Hero Metallica track list, the only ones that really bother me are Lynyrd Skynyrd and Foo Fighters. While Dave Grohl (front man/brainchild of Foo Fighters) has a solo metal album (Probot), I don’t really think Foo Fighters is too Metal. Maybe once we get more of these niche -hero games, like DJ Hero, we’ll see more genere-defined track lists.
I can’t say whether I like the idea of these games or not. I’m sure that they make gobs of money, as they Continue to make them. I’d much rather see these as downloadable packs for Guitar Hero 3, or World Tour, or the recently announced Guitar Hero 5, or maybe even Band Hero (also announced today by Activision)! It would be much easier for the consumer to just download the songs and play them using one disc, a la Rock Band 2 being able to play all of the songs (DLC and the ones on the disc) from the first Rock Band. I doubt we’ll see that kind of sanity from a modern company though, they just have to keep their retail presence, don’t they?
