General British is Suing NCSoft for 24 MILLION!!

I love a man in uniformLate last year following the collapse of his space MMO Tabula Rasa the king of the Mary Sue that we call Richard ‘Lord British’ Garriot left publishers NCSoft to “pursue other interests”. Well it seems like those interests include litigation as Mr. Author Insertion himself has filed a lawsuit against NCSoft seeking damages of $24 million.

So far, all we know about the case is that General British is accusing the Korean MMO giant of fraud demanding damages of $24 million. Unsurprisingly everyone appears to be scratching their heads, wondering what has happened following what appeared to be a remarkably amicable split. Maybe he came down from the rush of being sent into space at last. The most puzzling thing is why it’s taken nearly 6 months since leaving NCSoft for Garriot to finally put the accusation forward. It took barely Tomonobu Itagaki 6 minutes to sue Tecmo after leaving.

The surest thing about this case though is that $24 million would be a rather sizeable blow to NCSoft’s finances should Garriot win the case. Tabula Rasa wasn’t a cheap failure and the company’s biggest game, the free-to-play Guild Wars, doesn’t exactly bring in World of Warcraft amounts of  money.

Of course, it doesn’t help that Cryptic are stealing all their customers.

It’s “suing”, “pursue”, and Guild Wars isn’t free to play in the same way that most games that use that distinction are free.

Unless we can say that Diablo 2, Starcraft, or Battlefield 2 are free to play as well.
