Keep The Gay Off Our Forum Says BioWare

I apologise for nothing.Over on BioWare’s forums for Knights of the Old Republic the admins have seemingly been trying for a job at Microsoft. Forum threads discussing homosexual relationships in the game have been locked and the words ‘gay’, ‘lesbian’ and ‘homosexual’ have all been censored. Also being locked are any discussions or appeals about the ban itself. According to community manager Sean Dahlberg in a thread that has since been deleted:

As I have stated before, these are terms that do not exist in Star Wars. Thread closed.

Really Sean? Maybe you should put some research into your game because there’s some pretty strong evidence that says otherwise. However even if there wasn’t any evidence and this was just forum members theorising, you’re stopping them discussing plot points in the game. Even more than that you’re censoring words because they “don’t exist” in the world of the game? What next? Sony locking threads about walking on the Gran Turismo forums?

I guess in a way I don’t blame BioWare for locking the original thread linked above. I’ve read and taken part in enough angry comment threads on FanFiction.net to know that people get very angry when you question a fictional character’s sexuality. However that doesn’t excuse word censoring or just blanketly saying that the words don’t exist in the universe. The saddest thing of all though is that we still can’t get a mature discussion of homosexuality on the internet. It always ends in a flame war.

Oh, Bioware. It’s a shame that the internet doesn’t have the capacity to take something seriously.

For the sake of being true to THEIR SOURCE MATERIAL, I hope Bioware reverses this decision and allows the gay/lesbian relationships in their game, as nothing makes me more angry then retcons.

Shit… I’m not sure how, but one time I did manage to get a couple of lesbians in The Sims 2… pissed the husband off pretty badly, too :D

So no different from real life then?
