Atari Defends Riddick’s DRM, Says It’s Working

Pirate my game and I will **** you upYou may recall that around a week ago we mentioned the DRM included with the PC version (lol, PC games) of The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Well Atari has now spoken out through their official forums to defend the system. An admin under the name of MajorHavok posted:

I want to make it clear that there are people who are monitoring activations so if and when we get into an issue with people not being able to play that issue will be addressed. Should the case get so severe it affects a large portion of the gamers, more activations will be set in place as needed. Further down the line the DRM will be removed and a new unprotected .exe will be released.

Basically, people are checking this shit and the DRM will be removed eventually. MajorHavok also revealed that 1 serial number had been attempted 50,000 times, I find it hard to believe that hasn’t stopped a few pirates. When this DRM basically boils down to a serial number coupled with online activation I really do find it hard to be outraged by it. It’s what PC games used for DRM years ago just now with added internet.

Of course, if it really annoys you there is a version for sale which has no DRM. It’s called the console version.

wardrox Says:

The problem is that all of these systems basically result in your playing of the game being at their discretion, which isn’t “owning” the game.

DRM does nothing but stop dumb kids who wouldn’t buy the game anyway from “pirating” it for 30 mins before they get bored, and hassling legitimate customers.

wardrox Says:

Also, why don’t you just go bum DRM because you love it so much.

Foolage Says:

Also you can remove DRM by going on the piratebay and downloading a crack/fix. Them there pirates are clever!

Tim Says:

@wardrox, read the EULA. In most cases you don’t own the game. You own a license to play the game. Which actually does put your playing of it their discretion.
