Phil Spencer; Exlusively A Jackass

jackass

Kris Graft has recently written an article entitled “Exclusives Analysis: Xbox 360“. In this article, he interviews Phil Spencer, general game manager at Microsoft Game Studios. The article itself isn’t really worth the read, nothing we don’t know. Yes, Final Fantasy XII is coming to 360. Yes, Halo is ONLY on Xbox, along with Gears, and Fable. Blah blah blah. The part of ridiculous bias and blatant jackassery is on the last page entitled “We’ll see how you do”.

Phil Spencer is quoted as saying

We’ve heard for the last three years, people talking about the competitor’s lineup. They said, ‘˜Boy this is going to be the year you’re in trouble! We’ll see how you guys do.’ I remember last year, everyone said, ‘˜Well you don’t have a Halo, how are you going to do in holiday of ’08 without a Halo game?’ And I look at how we came out of that holiday in comparison with the exclusives on Sony’s platform, and I’ll say I hold my head high. I feel very good about our unit’s success.

Ok, you didn’t have a Halo, but you DID have a Gears of War 2. Stop playing coy, Spencer. Microsoft doesn’t have a “big ticket” item announced as of yet for this year. So stop being so arrogant.

Sony has some big names supposedly coming out this year; God of War III, Uncharted 2, and Infamous, to name a few. Infamous, is also a NEW IP. When is the last time Microsoft had an exclusive new IP? Microsoft sits on its laurels because it’s had a big ticket name to show for it at the end of the year. Unless Alan Wake is a lot further along then we all think, Microsoft needs to get working. Exclusive DLC won’t cut it when you have no triple-A games coming out.

“When is the last time Microsoft had an exclusive new IP?”
