Why I Will Never Play Games on The iPhone or iPod Touch
Financial reasons aside of course.
I play with my DS Lite on a regular basis. Even more so in the past few months since I got an R4 cart, which enables me to play homebrew AND NOTHING ELSE THANKS. But I always play in the same kind of environment that I would my Xbox (see: alone). The iPhone and iPod’s use as a gaming device seems to be being pushed as a secondary feature to use when you get the chance. This makes sense, after all they’re a phone and music player first and a handheld console second.
But I can honestly say I am far too self conscious and terrified of being mugged or stabbed to be seen playing like that in a public place like a bus or on a metro. I don’t even like playing my DS in public and especially not in front of strangers. I still get a little embarrassed playing it in front of friends and classmates when I need something to stop me falling into a comatose state during a business lecture at school.
As well as cut and pasting, the new iPhone Operating System (OS) has some features that will likely have a large impact on its gaming prowess (hooray for microtransactions). The quality of the games on the devices does seem to be increasing. And since everyone loves microtransactions and laggy multiplayer, perhaps I shall see some stranger on the bus flipping about because their monkey ball died or whatever.
PS: Is ‘funnest‘ even a word?

I play my DS on the Tube all the time, and often see others doing so as well. Who cares what other people think when you whip it out for a few rounds of Mario Kart or whatever? They’re probably not even paying attention!
No funnest is not a word, but is more fun to say funnest than to say most fun.
You can’t exactly bust out the DS in the waiting room of your doctors office if you are 30+… at least you can play games on the iphone without looking like you still live in your mom’s basement
