Sony Employees Are Now Losing Money Too

10000yen

Apparently being full of relentless AAA quality doesn’t pay the bills these days. Sony have announced to the Nikkei (that’s the Japanese stock market fact fans) that their employees are recieving their first wage freezes and cuts to try and stem the company’s money loss.

The hard numbers are that all wages are frozen, while yearly bonus payments will be cut by 33% for basic workers, while managers take hits ranging from 10-20% in their wages in addition to bonus cuts of 30-40%.

I have to say, when it comes to a reaction to the financial problems I do like this. Everyone is being given a cut, with the biggest drops going to the highest ranks. However it’s worth mentioning that while Sony’s losses are largely coming from their TV business, the Playstation division is also struggling somewhat as was mentioned in their financial forecast back in January. With these things in mind, how long can Sony hold off that long awaited PS3 price drop?

But because they’re loosing money, they can;t afford a price cut. Annoying catch 22. Even with the high price, they are still selling surprisingly well. I know the only region the 360 has out sold the PS3 is the US.. I think.
