Quitting is For Little Girls

left4dead

I’ve come to realize that kids today have no will to stay till the end. If you’re not a winner, quit early and try somewhere else.

Whatever happened to the days of “keep going ’til the bitter end?” It seems now that if your not winning, it’s best to just drop out. This bugs me.

The other day I was playing some Left 4 Dead with my co-workers here at Negative Gamer, we had America (myself, Frank and our two friends both named Paul) vs. England (Wardrox and the other english kids). Lets just say it was not pretty.

After the first 3 rounds of getting our asses handed to us like a small child getting punched in the face by Mr. T, all of my teammates quit right before the final map leaving myself now with 3 CPUs vs the unstoppable force of the queen and her minions. I did not last long as a survivor but I still kept on pushing until my redemption came. I alone took force of the zombie nation and obliterated the UK by myself as a powerful super tank cranked up on anger and getting awesome.

Sure we lost overall, but those final moments of bitter-sweet victorious revenge was amazing. So now the only question I have is why did my friends leave right before our final stand?

I believe that there just no will to fight now with so many competitors out in the world, that no one has a strive to be the best. People move to weaker crowds to make them feel like they are better, when in reality they should be taking punishment and learning from their mistakes.

Kids: Suck it up and take the beatings handed to you. It will make you a better gamer.

I’ve noticed this a lot recently too – on Peggle of all places. Its bad enough in 16player online games but in 1on1 session its incredibly bad sportsmanship, unfortunately in Peggle it’s possible to thrash someone so badly that several balls from the game’s end it’s clear they’ve got no chance of a comeback, and when this happens often your opponent just leaves, rather than staying to face it like a man.

I used to find that it happened a lot on Mario Kart on the Wii, it’s annoying. People quitting out on Peggle surpises me though Sup3rT3d.

The Incredible Edible Egg Says:

I see why people cut their losses on some games. It is painful to watch any hope of winning go down the tubes, but I don’t understand leaving when you’re playing a game with friends. That’s just rude.

Halfleft Says:

I remember that match. It was embarrassing. Nowt less.

Origim Says:

I don’t understand that either. I came close in the last FNF, because I was sucking bad and just flat pissed at myself. It’s just not something I can do. Win or lose you have to play to the end.

Brandon "Frank" Says:

I object. I waited until the LEVEL was complete. I didn’t finish the CAMPAIGN. Completely different. 4/5 rounds of getting ass raped was enough for me.
