64,000 Years of Halo 3 Played

According to Bungie, last Saturday the billionth game of Halo 3 was played. That’s billionth. Just to emphasise the point, they calculated the total number of seconds played in every online match (excluding custom maps) and arrived at 2,023,153,340,764 seconds.

Possibly the greatest achievement 12 year olds have managed to date (excluding possibly Bugsy Malone). Bungie went further with the numbers and calculated that the total roughly equals 64,000 years, adding that;

64,000 years ago:

  • Neanderthal walked the Earth.
  • Modern Man had yet to set foot in Asia.
  • The Battle Rifle was Hitscan.

I’ve done some maths myself. If the average time between the words “fag” or “gay” being muttered by any given player is roughly 120 seconds (remember, that’s for each individual player),  Halo players have screamed their little lungs out with homophobic slang roughly 17 billion times since the game launched. Amazing.

I just played on my account for the first time tonight and yeah. It’s definitely there. That, and we’d try to be nice and say good game at the end. Usually we just got a “f00000000ckkk youuuuu”

I am no longer in posession of a 360, I didn’t own an XBox, and yet I completely understand why all the 12 year olds are always screaming their lungs out at everyone else: they suck. How do I know this? Please recall my previous statement, and allow me to append that I have NEVER owned a Halo game… before my roomie and the 360 moved out, we borrowed Halo 3. I took it online just for shits and giggles. Slaughtered everyone the first match. Wasn’t even a challenge. And I spend most of my time playing Dungeon Siege 2 or Freelancer on PC! Sorry kids, but when someone who doesn’t even PLAY your game comes in and owns you, you need to go find something else to do.
