Killzone 2 Fanboys Trolling Themselves?
Over the weekend there has been growing unrest around the inter-tubes regarding Killzone 2 reviews. It seems some people can never be pleased. In light of all of this, I thought it prudent to bring to light a couple of the responses to the “controversy” that I thought were worth watching or reading.
The first one is Adam Sessler’s latest Soap Box vid which has been spread around as one of the best reactions. Ignoring the fact that G4 apparently have negative balls and felt the need to put up a disclaimer at the start, it’s still a very interesting watch. He points out the stupidity and depths that some Killzone 2 supports will go to in order to claim their game of choice is being unfairly treated. One viewer even went as far as to say that although Sessler on G4TV gave the game a 5/5 (that’s 100% for those maths lovers), the tone of his voice showed his true dislike for the game.
The other great reaction I’ve seen over all this comes from Destructoid. Jim Sterling (long time lover fan of NG) wrote a great article titled Black Smoke: The power of suggestion and the art of self-trolling. He first likens, rather dramatically, the current trend of Killzone 2 fanatics to the reaction had by some at Orson Welles’ 1938 radio broadcast of The War of The Worlds. A broadcast which had some people so convinced of the alien invasion they began to genuinely believe they could smell the black fog. Or so the story goes.
He goes on to talk about some of the very odd reactions some people have had to the glowing reviews the game has had (8.1 on TestFreaks, 9.3 on MetaCritic);
When it gets to the point where people are going into high-scoring reviews and posts that actually defend their precious exclusive games, dreaming up things to be miserable about, perhaps it’s time certain individuals re-evaluated their priorities, and perhaps took up a hobby that doesn’t cause them so much grief and sorrow.
If a site giving Killzone 2 full marks is enough to upset some gamers, I do hate to imagine what will happen when they read Edge’s 7/10.

I never have understood the furor over less than perfect reviews. If the fucking game gets 6/10 or higher then that’s a job well done in my mind. If you like a particular title then play it, who really cares what some “journalist” thinks.
I guess it was inevitable that the fanboism would come to this, perhaps this is the peak and it will be on a decline but i doubt it. If it wasn’t so desperatly sad, i could appreciate the irony of the comments left on the x-play review…
