2K Boss Thinks There Are Too Many Crappy Wii Games
You read that right, 2K’s global boss, Christoph Hartmann, has actually said what we have all been saying for a long time now. Sadly, I think he didn’t mean it in quite the same way.
Talking to MCV, Hartmann said that there is so much shovelware on the Wii right now that their own branded shovelware casually targeted Carnival Games would struggle to gain traction if released today. He also spoke about the damage the vast amount of shit being pushed on the Wii is doing.
Where people go wrong in the casual market is that, while the development costs are exploding on the casual side, they’re treating the Wii like the old PC market ‘“ making cheap, accessible games. They think if they make ten titles and two are hits, they will finance the other eight.
But they forget these eight crappy titles will flood the market and will lead to problems in terms of production ‘“ and upset retailers. Also, the consumer will be pissed off because they’ll be confused.
I completely agree with him with the idea that it sucks having so many terrible games being pumped out for the Wii. But I can’t help but feel he might be being a touch hypocritical. Still, I haven’t played 2K Play’s Go, Diego, Go! Great Dinosaur Rescue so wouldn’t like to make the assumption.
Perhaps my cynicism is getting the best of me. 2K doesn’t actually put out very many crap Wii games and the ones they do are mostly licenced. Regardless of hypocrisy, he’s still completely right with his comments. Less shovelware please.
