Crap Newspapers Criticise “Sick and Callous” (And 6 Year Old) Flash Game

Oh look, somebody made a kinda crap flash game 6 years ago which is “offensive”. The UK’s pathetic, more conservative papers, have found it and are publicising it’s existence and being dumb.

The game on newgrounds titled “The Suicide Bomber Game” is very simple. You can go left, right or detonate yourself. There are random passers by and your goal is to kill as many as possible. Not quite on par with Muslim Massacre, but apparently it’s bad enough to get interest from the big news organisations.

The DailyStar (an appalling piece of tabloid crap in the UK) didn’t seem to enjoy the “sick and violent computer game”.

The free online game, which can easily be accessed by children, shows graphic images of body parts being splattered across the town.

In their attempt at making up valid looking news about the 6 year old game, they contacted the Tory MP, John Whittingdale, who is the chairman of the Commons Culture, Media and Sport select committee. Sadly he wasn’t quite up in arms over this small flash game and said that;

I find this game tasteless but I don’t think it will necessarily start turning people into suicide bombers. But those whose lives have been affected by suicide bombings I imagine would find it upsetting.

With this key information in hand, the DailyStar found some people who had been affected by suicide bombings, namely the Bali Bombing Victims Group. They gave some great quotes.

If that wasn’t enough stupidity, The Telegraph also wrote an article condemning the little known flash game. But which well known MP with no knowledge of videogames would they talk too? Good old Keith Vaz.

Keith Vaz, chairman of the home affairs select committee, said it contained an “unnecessary” level of violence and expressed concern that children had access to the game.

Most likely before inquiring as to which Halo they were talking about (that’s a joke about how Keith Vaz knows literally nothing about videogames, just fyi).

These people are either underhanded and trying to bring unwarranted attention to their cause (or articles), or genuinely so stupid that they don’t realise that they are undermining everything they are trying to achieve.

I contacted the US’ most prominent voice against violent videogames, Jack Thompson, for his opinion. I explained the situation as I see it and asked if “there any advice you would give to those trying to get the game banned, and do you think their method of very public disapproval is a step in the right direction?”.

By your reasoning, Churchill promoted Hitler by identifying his mendacity and warmongering. Please.

Oh, Jack. When will you learn?

The_Young_Scot Says:

God, we have such a horrible complaining culture right now. Maybe it’s always been that way but it seems slightly more prominent now. I mean just look at how overblown the whole Jonathan Ross/Russell Brand thing got.

But now people are digging up random 6 year old flash games and using that as a story?

Surely these people have better things to spend their time on.

Cataract Says:

Wait a minute, I’m most likely taking that quote out of context, but was Jack Thompson agreeing that the more noise they make out of this game, the more they defeat their own purpose?

Jim Sterling Says:

Thompson loves invoking Godwin’s Law. Anyway, considering that JT has already admitted that generating negative press has helped HIS cause, he is in no position to answer your theory with sarcasm.

And here again we see the pussification of modern society. If something bothers you, then why do you hang around to make a big deal about it? Ever heard the old saying, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”? You may not like something, but plenty of others may get entertainment out of it. And it’s a flash game, so its’ sole purpose is to entertain. People seriously need to wake up to the pussification happening and start doing something about it. If it offends you, go away! It really isn’t rocket science. All you do by making a big deal out of it is make yourself look like an attention-whoring dick. On the internet, I think we call them “trolls”.

nintendoll Says:

Because you know, video game violence is totally on par with genocide. lol.
