WiiFit ABSOLUTELY WILL OVERTAKE GTA IV SALES: Because the Internet says so

So, if you’ve seen any major games sites you know that the “projected” sales of WiiFit are said to overtake those of GTA IV. It will definitely happen of course, simply because Michael Pachter said so:

‘œWii Fit is attaching at around a 30 percent rate,’ he said via e-mail, meaning that nearly one in three owners of Nintendo’s console are buying Wii Fit, ‘œso I suppose if that continues, it will outsell GTA.’

Notice his words “suppose” and “if.” These are words that most bloggers are apparently incapable of reading. Will the WiiFit continue to sell as well as it has been? I’m not sure, partially because I’m confused as to where people are actually getting copies of the game. I haven’t seen it in any retail store for months.

Also, comparing something like WiiFit to GTA IV isn’t even really fair. GTA IV is a true videogame, and it only has so much replay value. People who didn’t buy the game within two months of the launch date most likely are never going to buy the game at all. The way I figure, there are so many releases of AAA titles a year that if you miss one it’s just better to save your money up for the next one. Plus GTA IV has an “M” rating with some controversial content, making it at least slightly less accessible to both younger “hardcore” gamers and the casual market. The game came out almost a year ago and everyone who wanted to play it has probably done so already, so the game sales will steadily decrease over the coming months.

WiiFit on the other hand is NOT a game. It is a personal trainer. The mass appeal of it is that you can use your Wii to keep detailed statistics on your physical progress. It works much more effeciently than videos or DVDs, and is much less expensive than a personal trainer. Since WiiFit has no “ending,” it has infinite “replay value.” This will ensure that the sales are fairly steady. Why would an overweight person go out to a gym , where they might feel embarrassed about their size compared to everyone else? WiiFit gives you a daily workout regimen in the privacy of your home.

So, it doesn’t take a genius to realize that it’s likely that WiiFit might (emphasis on that word) overtake sales of GTA IV. You could also say that WiiFit might one day overtake the sales of Halo 3. You know why? Because everyone has already played it! Hardcore gamers eat up one title for a month or so then move on to the next. Also, the WiiFit bundle’s sales will stay steady because hardcore gamers are going to want the Balance Board for games like the upcoming Shaun White Snowboarding (I’ve played it and it’s pretty good on the board).

Also, the sales of course are “thanks in large part to the women who bought the game in droves.” I can’t even believe that a tech site had the balls to write that. It just means that when they wanted the game, they sent their wives and girlfriends in to buy it for them. Because real men don’t play WiiFit.

Just because women are not normally the demographic doesn’t mean that men aren’t buying it. In fact, I’ve tried searching for numbers on men versus women buying the bundle and I can’t even find any. I’m sure Nintendo has these numbers…I mean some one must know these numbers or else all of these claims that the game’s sales are due to women would be horribly sexist. OH WAIT….

Shut up woman. Michael Pachter said stuff.

Unless the bundles continuously contain the board and wii fit game long after the buzz dies down I cant see it overtaking gta4.
