Red Alert 3 to Have More “Lenient” SecuROM
Talking on the C&C3 support forums, Executive Producer Chris Corry, has tried to address concerns about the use of SecuROM in Red Alert 3.
In the wake of the Spore DRM controversy which is still making waves around the net, Corry has tried to make it clear that the SecuROM which comes with RA3 won’t be quite as shit unnecessarily harsh on paying customers.
According to his post, the limit on number of installs before a call to customer services is required is now 5, and registration will only be required once per install. He also added some surprisingly good news with the fact that you will be able to play RA3 without the disc in the drive.
He also made clear reference to the Spore fiasco by stating that;
Red Alert 3 is shaping up to be a world-class RTS game that will give you many hours of enjoyment. I think it would be a shame if people decided to not play a great game simply because it came with DRM, but I understand that this is a very personal decision for many of you and I respect that. As you might imagine, I’m a lot less respectful of those people who take the position that they will illegally download a game simply because it has DRM.
It’s not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction. It’s also very good to see somebody in a position of authority making a point to address such concerns. Now just as soon as they can explain to me the incentive to install a root-kit SecuROM over downloading a backup* without it, then we can all be happy.

DRM was one reason that mean’s I will not be getting Spore, even by non-buying means. I’m looking forward to RA3, but this is still pissing me off.
