Better than a George Foreman Grill
The PS3 has been the object of many mods since its release, the craziest of which include the grill mod and Ben Heck’s famous PS3 laptop. But now you can actually do something useful with the system with relatively little effort and mod it to run as a Linux PC.
PopularMechanics.com has a step-by-step walkthrough of how to convert your system. You’ll have to buy a bit of memory to run the system as a computer, since the 40-60GB memory is a bit small for a PC. But the plus side is that the system is “dual-bootable”–meaning it can be started up as a PS3 or a computer. Don’t get your hopes up too high, kids–this puppy can’t play most PC games. Sure, it doesn’t have the flair of a built-in LCD like Ben Heck’s laptop, but it’s a simpler mod for the do-it-yourselfer.
This will give PS3 owners a use for the system until all of the good games are released.

I just like the PS3 has the option to “install another Operating System” right there in the options! Now, as soon as the Linux distro’s can utilise all the cores and the GPU, I’m in :)
Nice, since i imagine the USB Ports support keyboards and mice right?
@Gibbo
I assume when it’s booted as a computer, yes. I don’t see why not anyway.
For a while, dedicated gaming consoles have been a thing of the past. If we’re already this far along with a PS3, I can imagine next generation having more in common with multi-purpose computers than what we’ve been seeing. And then nobody will be able to call me a dirty console jockey, but I’ll still be able to call PC gamers elitist pricks.
