Do Some Research!
During my time writing for Ripten I cover a vast number of stories. Most of the time, you find a cool story, trace back a few links, read around, do a little research then compile the article. Or at least that’s what I do.
It seems that all too often some videogame bloggers simple copy -> paste -> reword -> publish. For example, I just wrote up a peice about the delay with GTA’s DLC. The story goes that:
Take-Two said it was going to be delayed until fiscal 2009. A day later, Microsoft said it was going to be on time for Fall 2008.
Bloggers all over the place jumped on the first announcement and started announcing that GTA was delayed until 2009. So when MS said it was still on track for a Fall 2008 release, confusion and allegations began.
A few sites did pick up on the fact that fiscal 2009 starts on November 1st, and Fall dosn’t end untill December 20th, but most reports (inclusing ones from sites I have a very high regard for) just seemed to follow the trend.
