GameDaily Give GTA a “Perfect 10″, Then Write “Why We Stopped Playing GTA IV”
By John Kershaw on Friday, May 30th 2008
I read all of the GTA IV reviews, and got caught up in the hype, much like everybody else. I expected it to be the single greatest game ever. It’s not. As soon as I started playing, I became confused, how did it get a 10?
My confusion grows even more when site’s like GameDaily highlighting the flaws in GTA (flaws I have been hammering on about for a while) and say how these problems have stopped them playing the game, after giving it a perfect 10 review.
So which is it? Is this game the be-all and end-all of videogames? “one for the history book” as your review says? Or are you telling us that a perfect game can be tiresome after a month, to the point you don’t want to play it anymore?
To sum up their reasons why they stopped playing the game:
Hanging out with people blows
Our games still freeze
Brain dead police
GTA IV’s controls aren’t reliable
Same dry missions
Strippers wear bikinis
You restart missions at the beginning
Achievement points are too difficult to unlock
You still think this game is a perfect 10? I don’t want to call into question the credibility of the site, but it does beg a few questions. Has something changed, or are these reasons why you would physically stop playing the game, not important enough to dent the game’s perfect score?
Something just doesn’t add up.
After reading a lot of reviews about GTA IV, the only one I 100% agree with is Destructoid’s review of the game. A review which gave the game the lowest score to date (an 8/10) and came out a month after GTA did.

I officially HATE……HATE………Grand Theft Auto
The game creators are so stupid and the game so stupid that you can get caught drunk driving at the Bumper Cars.
Really Poor AI
MWHAHAHA MWHAHAH *cough* MWHAHAHA
What credibility? This is the first time I’ve heard “GameDaily” and “Credibility” in the same sentence, other than “GameDaily has no credibility!”, and I’m the one who says that!
lol, I think you may have a point there heartsbane. Though, I didn’t say they had credibility, just that I didn’t want to bring it into question :P
I have to agree with you Jon, it does not make sense and really makes a joke of the review. But you would like the Destructiod review wouldn’t ya?! LOL
GTA4 is average, i’ve 100%ed it and am now sick of it. same damn thing for 75 hours and shooting 200 ridiculously hard to find pigeons only to have the cops chase you half way down the island = not fun im my book. bring on the next astronomically overhyped game. i hate GTA
finally all yall it you know its same game as previous
GTA 4 is actually pretty boring, very unresponsive controls and same old missions. I admin there are times when I say WOW when I’m playing it but for a game that is this hyped and gets 10 I want to be saying WOW at least half the time I’m playing it.
I hate you that said you spent 75 hours completing 100% of the game, then say its average and you hate it.Read what you just typed you utter lunatic
Hey guys, this is “Negative Gamer” :P
If I said I played CoD online for 30 hours, and think it’s crap, this is the place to do it! Same with any game.
Also, 8/10 is a high score. I don’t think anybody is saying it’s a bad game, just not a 10/10 game.
Oh noes! I’m being suckered in too! I wasn’t talking about GTA being good or bad, this article is pointing out a site which said it was “perfect” seem to be being a touch hypercritical.
Woah, fizzle is a badass.
i would personally give GTA 4 a 8.5/10, I think that is a fair score.
Amazing graphics and locations,
boring repetitive gameplay,
Annoying spawning police
collecting 200 pigeons isn’t fun,
completing the game in under 30 hours forcing you to rush through the story is THE single most ridiculous achievement EVER!!! Agreed?
what would you all rate it?
ha, achievements! One of the main reasons I got it for the PS3, I shall not b lured into doing them!
I can’t help but agree. I will spent 45 mins thinking it’s the best game ever, then something really annoying happens and it sort of snaps me out of it.
Trying to put a score on it is hard. I’m going to be writing some reviews for negative gamer, but taking a very different approach, so it could be interesting to see what you guys think toit.
