Rock Band Gets a £40 Price Drop, Still Costs Way Too Much
The overpriced, easy to break, 6 months late and taken-a-page-out-of-Nintendo’s-book Rock Band has finally had some good news go it’s way. Or has it?
Following poor sales in the UK (after being released at more than double the price of the American version and more than half a year later) Play.com have dropped nearly 25% off to RRP to sell the game for only £139.99 (roughly $275). They have cut £10 off the physical disc price, and a further £30 off the ‘œBand In A Box’ full instrument set.
But is this enough? It’s still double the price of Guitar Hero III and 185% more expensive than the US version. Over here in sunny England we are used to feeling the pain of overpriced games but this is one step beyond the normal.
When this game was originally announced, I had nothing but hype building inside of me. Had you asked me back then if I would buy it, I would have looked at you like an idiot for even suggesting I wouldn’t. Now though, after all of this, I refuse to buy it and would encourage others to do the same.
If you buy Rock Band, and pay full price, you are telling the management of these companies (who will only ever see and analyse sales graphs) that you like paying nearly double the price you should. It will only get worse.
